Eddie the Donkey is a visitor to the Visual Design class here on Mars, here to demonstrate the scientific progress made in genetics on Mars. Eddie is the first lab-bred donkey that we know of who can talk! Unfortunately for us, however, he has quite an attitude and a crude sense of humor. Frankly, we find him annoying (although I think he’s a great teacher!), so the lab techs asked us to make a new home for him, far away from the Colonies. We found a nice, vacant field back on Earth, and prepared to build him a shelter to live in.
For the design class, we were given the job of using Photoshop to combine three pictures: a landscape image of rolling hills, a photograph of a rusty, dilapidated shed, and, of course, an image of Eddie (seen above). We also needed to make adjustments to each picture: we adjusted the coloration of the field to look unkempt and discarded; we removed the shed from its original photograph, and inserted it into the field; we used blending and vector masks to make the shed seem natural in the field; lastly, we used vector masks to put Eddie in the doorway of the shed and make it appear as though he were half-inside the shed, with shadows on his body. The project was given to us to demonstrate how to blend and combine photographs in a seemingly natural way.
EDIT: Mastery image for Eddie the Donkey, where we had to make Eddie a vacation home. I felt the school would make a suitable choice.
